Take Me Home Country Roads written by Bill Danoff and Denver after his brief time with folk bands, was Denver's debut Top 10 solo hit. Danoff had written the song with Johnny Cash in mind but when Denver was introduced to an earlier version it was clear that the song was likely to become an instant hit.
