Queen Latifah
Dana Elaine Owens - better known to the public as Queen Latifah is an American actor, rapper, and singer. Queen Latifah is an American rapper, actress as well as a singer. Queen Latifah was born in Newark, NJ. The daughter is Rita Owens Sr. and Lancelot Owens Jr. The couple divorced when Latifah was ten. Latifah was a student at the Catholic School in Newark, the state of New Jersey. She was also raised by her family's Baptist Church. Latifah means gentle and very gentle. Her cousin gave it to her when she was aged eight. Always tall, the 5'10 tall Latifah was a power forward for her basketball team in high school. She performed the hit song"Home" from The Wiz at a performance in high school. Latifah started beatboxing in the women's fresh rap group. Latifah joined the Flavor Unit's original group that included several MCs as well as the producer DJ Mark 45 King. Mark James (aka DJ Mark the 45King) recorded a demo of Queen Latifah rapper Princess of the Posse. The recording was handed over to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross of Tommy Boy Music was interested by the tune. It was signed by Latifah and dropped her first single Wrath of My Madness in 1988.
